How our BC Sahib programme is boosting women's employment and deepening access to banking services -
PPBL has partnered with Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UP Govt.) to empower rural women by providing them with job opportunities as BC Sahibs in their communities. We aim to help improve the quality of life of women through our Bank Correspondent (BC) Sahib programme. We conduct regular awareness campaigns centred on women's financial literacy.BC Sahibs are members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which are formed at the village committee level. Affectionately called 'bank sisters' by the villagers, nearly 4,000 operational BC Sahibs have so far earned around Rs 1.5 lakh as commission. Their life stories are often showcased and trophies, certificates and mementos are regularly awarded to BC Sahibs who have excelled.
Through this project, we provide technology-rich banking solutions to people in rural areas through free services such as zero-balance savings accounts, free fund transfers, instant debit cards, AEPS, FASTag, and more. Apart from this, we also address emergency financial needs and provide doorstep banking services to senior or disabled citizens. Through regular training programmes, we keep BC Sahibs abreast of new product launches, skill upgradation and re-training on existing products and provide consultancy and guidance to help them increase their transaction volumes and commissions while adhering to RBI's standards and compliance requirements.
Through the BC Sahib programme, we aim to reach out to the remote areas of the country and provide services through technological advancements while promoting employment and financial inclusion. We have been encouraging other women to become financially aware and independent like the recognised BC Sahibs, to get out of the house, interact with people, learn new skills and understand the banking industry.
BC Sahib provides financial services in hard-to-reach rural areas. Through door-to-door banking services, it saves rural customers travelling expenses, time and lost wages. Transactions can be conducted even during holidays and emergencies when banks are closed. A shining example of this is the door-to-door banking service that BC Sahib provided to villagers during COVID.
We have always been committed to driving financial inclusion and empowering every Indian through innovative financial services. We believe that digital financial services have the power to transform lives and drive economic growth and we are proud to play a leading role in this movement.
