银联国际与印尼转接网络ALTO合作提升中印跨境支付体验

UnionPay International has announced on September 24th that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Indonesia’s domestic switching network, ALTO, in Shanghai. The agreement stipulates that both parties will enable all 46,000 ATMs under ALTO and its member banks to accept UnionPay cards, while accelerating the collaboration in the cross-border mobile payment sector to enhance the payment experience for travelers between China and Indonesia.

Indonesia, one of the largest economies in Southeast Asia, has seen over 95% of its merchants’ POS terminals accepting UnionPay cards, with several mainstream local banks issuing UnionPay cards. This year, the transaction volume of UnionPay cards issued in Indonesia has grown fourfold compared to the same period last year. Building on this, UnionPay International is actively improving cash withdrawal services for cardholders in Indonesia, catering to their diverse payment needs. As a vital component of Indonesia’s national network GPN, ALTO’s collaboration will increase the acceptance rate of UnionPay cards at ATMs to 90% and enhance the card usage experience in popular tourist destinations such as Bali and Jakarta.

The two parties have also agreed to expedite the cross-border interconnection of local QR codes between China and Indonesia. With the rapid development of mobile payment services in Indonesia in recent years, the national QR code standard QRIS, operated by ALTO, has covered over 30 million merchants locally. Following this trend, UnionPay International is actively promoting the compatibility of UnionPay QR codes with QRIS. Once the cooperation is implemented, Chinese residents will be able to use the UnionPay App and commercial bank Apps connected to the “UnionPay Network Payment Platform” to scan QRIS codes for payment in Indonesia, while Indonesian wallet Apps will be directly usable at global UnionPay QR code acceptance points.

In recent years, UnionPay’s acceptance network has expanded to 182 countries and regions abroad, covering over 69 million merchants. More than 240 million UnionPay cards have been issued in 82 countries and regions overseas. While accelerating the improvement of its own network infrastructure, UnionPay International is actively promoting interconnection with local QR code networks abroad. Related projects have been launched in countries including South Korea, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, and Thailand.
