Please take care to guard against fraudulent SMS and calls regarding KYC suspension or expiry, account freezes and fake rewards! :- www.deekpay.com
If you receive any text messages claiming:
A. your Paytm KYC has expired
B. May need to be updated
C. or your account will be frozen within 24 hours
Please do not trust these messages. These are scammers trying to get access to your details and scam you out of your hard-earned money. If someone calls and asks you to download apps such as QuickSupport or Anydesk to complete or update your KYC, do not download these apps as they can be used by fraudsters to take over your Paytm account and steal your money.
Scammers have been sending random panic-inducing SMSes threatening that users' Paytm accounts will be frozen or KYC will expire and asking them to call a specific number provided in the SMS to resolve the issue. After that, they use two tactics to trick gullible genuine customers.
The first tactic is that they will pretend to be Paytm's customer service and ask you to install apps like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport etc. to reactivate/update or complete your KYC.Once the apps are installed, it usually generates a 9-digit address code, which is shared to allow the scammers to remotely access and view your device's screen. Once they are able to see your screen, all your mobile banking apps or Paytm apps can be accessed by these fraudsters and they can carry out transactions through your accounts including UPI and wallet.
Due to the latest security features introduced in our app, fraudsters will ask you to open Paytm.com in your mobile browser instead of the Paytm app so that they can see your password in plain text. Once they have access to your password, the fraudster will access the account from their device (for OTPs, they don't need to ask explicitly as they can read it directly from the device screen) and start the fraudulent transaction.
Therefore, please ignore all such communications and do not download any apps just because someone sends you a text message and calls you asking you to do so, or log in to any payment apps when the screen is visible to others.
The second tactic is that they get your password and OTP for login and transactions by creating fake websites that look and feel similar to Paytm's website. They will create the following website:
- jn29832.ngrok.io/index.php etc.
They can create countless such websites and URLs, so the safest way is to remember that Paytm will never ask you to enter any details on any website (except Paytm.com). They may ask the customer for the URL over the phone or send it via SMS (if the URL is long or complex).
Most of these sites are far from real applications and do not have the "secure" padlock symbol (not using the HTTPS security protocol that all trusted platforms and sites now use).
Once the customer visits this site, they will ask the user to enter their password, OTP and card number or their CVV and then possibly the OTP of the transaction, all of which once entered and submitted will be displayed in plaintext to the fraudsters. They will then use these credentials to take over the customer's account and commit fraud.
Please note: Never enter your credit/debit card details, Paytm PIN, OTP or your card CVV number on any website or URL link sent via SMS.
