Razorpay Payment Gateway: Beware of Fraud - Be Wary of AnyDesk App ｜ Paytm Payments Bank Blog

Recently, fraud has been perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals using remote access applications such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, and QuickSupport to defraud gullible consumers. How does the fraud work? Crooks lure victims into downloading apps such as AnyDesk under various pretexts - such as "your account requires real-name authentication or it will be frozen". Hackers gain remote access through a nine-digit code generated on the victim's device. Once the fraudster enters this app code on his own device, he asks the victim to grant certain permissions that are similar to those required for other apps to be used. This enables the fraudster to access the victim's device and conduct transactions through any mobile banking app or payment-related app, including UPI or wallets.

What steps can you take to protect yourself?

Ignore any calls or messages that ask you to download an app, share your code or OTP, or threaten you to behave in a particular way. Always verify the apps you download and review the permissions granted to apps. By having a deeper understanding of the apps you use and the actions they can perform with the right set of permissions, you can protect yourself and your family from such scams.

Spread awareness of this fraud to your friends and family as awareness is the best protection. Don't forward any spam text messages that a representative of a so-called bank or technology company asks you to respond to.
