The main purpose of the festival is to celebrate the coming of spring and to pray for a good harvest of grains, and it is a very important festival for the Hindu religion. The festival is celebrated annually according to the dates of the Hindu calendar, usually from February to March in the national calendar, and according to the different customs of different parts of India, the festival is held for a period of 3 to 16 days. On the night before the festival, people will hold a bonfire ceremony, singing and dancing around the fire and throwing grass and paper bundles into the fire to burn, and then on the next morning, they will go out on the street together to spray each other with colourful pigment water or powder, and point the pigment on each other's foreheads to show their blessings. All the people in the country, men and women, young and old, and regardless of the caste system, will celebrate together and hope for good luck for the whole year to come.

Origin of Houli Festival
Legend has it that there was an ancient king who was blessed with immortality by the Lord Brahma and became arrogant, forbidding the people to believe in other gods but only worshipping him. However, the prince did not agree with the king's practice and rose up to defy him, so the king commanded his sister, the siren Holika, to put on a fireproof cloak and jumped into the fire with the prince, and the prince prayed to the god Vishnu during the struggle. The prince prayed to Lord Vishnu during the struggle, and when the god heard this, he immediately came to rescue the prince and the siren Holika was buried in the fire. People who were worried about the prince went to see the prince unharmed, and in order to thank Lord Vishnu for his protection, they threw seven colours of water at the prince, which later evolved into a festival where people throw coloured powder on each other every year and celebrate the festival together, and the festival of Holi, which evolved from the name of the siren Holika, and it also means the Hindi word for "colours". Holi is also the Hindi word for "colours".
