  According to a report in India's Economic Times, the Indian government is working with as many as 20 countries that have shown keen interest in the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that India is designing, developing and deploying for its 1.35 billion citizens. Here are the highlights of the report:

  1. Twelve countries, having seen the success of the DPI in India, wish to implement similar digital public infrastructure in their own countries.

  2. DPI is a platform-based approach to achieving social goals or improving the ease of life through technology, including digital identity, payment infrastructure, etc.

  3. The foundations of DPI in India include the identity layer (Aadhaar), the payer (Unified Payment Interface) and the Data Authorisation and Protection Architecture (DEPA).

  4. Countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Maldives, France and Bhutan have begun to deploy digital infrastructure for public utility services.

  5. Bhutan was one of the early adopters of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) system in India.

  6. Digital cooperation between India and African countries is also increasing.

  7. Since a memorandum of cooperation has been signed, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will promote technology transfer as part of bilateral efforts.
