In order to raise public awareness about cyber security, Paytm has joined hands with DSCI (Data Security Council India) to organise cyber security conferences across the country. This initiative is aimed at raising cyber security awareness in collaboration with national law enforcement agencies and security experts. As part of the programme, a series of cyber security conferences will be organised in major cities across the country such as Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru, where over 200 police personnel are expected to participate.

The first ever Cyber Security Conference was held in Kolkata on 17th February 2018 and was inaugurated by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, CID, West Bengal along with the CEO & Managing Director, DSCI. The interactive event attracted over 70 cybercrime enforcers from across Kolkata and discussed topics such as investigative methodologies in the age of extreme digitisation, challenges and issues in financial crime investigations, and best practices adopted by banks in addressing risks in digital payment systems.

The registration of law enforcement officers at the Cybersecurity Conference at Kolkata and comments from attendees are listed below:

"This was the most engaging and informative interaction I have ever been involved in on this topic. The topic of cybersecurity has been transformed from what was once a boring topic that was feared due to lack of information, to an area that is exciting and requires us to keep up with the pace in order to achieve effective investigations in today's world."

Appreciating the endeavour, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, CID, West Bengal, said, "This is a very good initiative and we hope to have the support of Paytm and other industry players to take it forward."

The session was moderated by eminent personalities in the field of legal and financial investigations: Vakul Sharma, Advocate, Supreme Court of India; Rama Vedashree, CEO, DSCI; Sri Harikishore Kusumakar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kolkata Municipality, among others.

Our Chief Information Security Officer, Nitin Chauhan, and General Manager, Fraud and Risk Management, Sumit Somani, spoke at the conference, interacted with the audience through a Q&A session, and shared insights and ideas on financial cybersecurity.

At the Cybersecurity Conference, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a range of experts covering the complete spectrum from social engineering to a variety of cyberattacks including phishing, voice phishing, account and device takeovers, as well as their modus operandi, investigations, and solutions.

Attendees will also learn the skills and tools needed to combat and investigate such frauds. Going forward, the bank will be organising multiple conferences in major Indian cities to provide information and engage state law enforcement.

We have also developed a portable guide on "Cybercrime Investigations" as a quick reference for investigators.

Our CEO, Renu Satti, and the Chief of Police have come together to support this initiative. As Renu rightly points out, "These interactions provide a great opportunity for those in the tech industry and law enforcement to come together, network, and share expertise to ensure a quick resolution for our clients in cybersecurity fraud cases."
